The Bob Ufer Story

We are grateful for the support and encouragement we've received from many donors and friends.  Totally funded by tax-deductible donations, over $120,000 has been raised toward the goal of $150,000!

Because Bob's story deserves it, we decided to go big, expanding our original concept for a 50 minute documentary, to a full length film. The Bob Ufer Story seeks to be the definitive telling of Bob's inspiring life journey. Over 80 heartfelt interviews have been conducted for the film, and hundreds of hours of Bob's radio broadcasts have been reviewed.  The film will contain rarely-seen archival footage and photos from Ufer's early days as a star athlete for Meechigan!

Dear Michigan Alums and Wolverine Football Fans!

On November 28, 2015, at the Michigan-Ohio State game, we began filming a feature length documentary about Michigan’s beloved radio announcer, Bob Ufer! We are now on the home stretch.  The film will premiere in Ann Arbor on October 5, 2018.

Many older Michigan fans remember Bob Ufer, but for those who don't, Bob was a world record holding, varsity track star at Michigan, who went on to become the memorable "voice of Michigan football" from 1945 until his untimely death in October of 1981.

Bob Ufer was a local treasure, known for his high level of enthusiasm, his creative use of language, and a broadcasting style unapologetically in favor of the Maize and Blue! Bob was beloved by millions. Even after games became regularly televised, it was common for fans to turn down the volume of the TV, so that they could still listen to Ufer on the radio!

The Bob Ufer Story will celebrate Michigan's tradition of enthusiasm and excellence. Coach Jim Harbaugh is an important interviewee in our film, joined by several other football icons, broadcasting personalities, members of the Ufer family and local fans.

Funded entirely by tax-deductible donations, our contributors include: The M Den, Stephen M. Ross, Bill & Wendy Holmes, David Lutton, Charles Reinhart Realtors, Tim Wadhams, Todd and Terri Anson, Weber's Inn, Pollock Investment Advisors, The Bouma Group, Bank of Ann Arbor, Jiffy Mixes and many others.

Thank you in advance for supporting our film!  Please reach out to me directly, if you have any questions about the project.

Sincerely,

Dan Chace, Producer and Director
